Gratitude · Week 1: Remembering God’s Goodness

Week 1 • Winter 2027

This Week’s Faith Focus

Gratitude begins when we remember the good things God has done and the ways God cares for us.

Scripture

Joshua 4:1–9 — After the Israelites crossed the Jordan River, they gathered stones to help future generations remember what God had done.

Talk About It

  • What did the stones help the Israelites remember?
  • Is there an object or place that helps your family remember a special moment?
  • When have you felt cared for this week?

Use Your Journey Kit

Find the activity for each child’s age in your Journey Kit. If you have children in more than one age group, choose an activity for each or do them together.

Ages 4–7

PAGE 3 – Week 1

Listen to the story together. Build a small stack of blocks or stones. As you add each one, name something or someone you’re thankful for.

Blocks or stones on hand.

Ages 8–11

PAGE 3 – Week 1

Imagine a child seeing the stones and asking, “Why are those there?” Tell the story the Israelites’ families would share. Draw a picture telling a story your family could share about care or gratitude.

Ages 12–14

PAGE 3 – Week 1

Think of a moment when someone helped you or showed you they cared. What would you want to remember about that moment? Share it or write it down in your Journey Kit.

Ages 15–18

PAGE 3 – Week 1

Reflect on a time you experienced care or support, even during a difficult season. What would you want a “remember” symbol to help you hold on to? Record your response in your Journey Kit.

Pray Together

God, thank you for the ways you have cared for us. Help us remember your goodness and share those stories with one another. Amen.

Live It This Week

Find a smooth stone. Paint or write “Remember” on it, or add a symbol of something your family wants to remember about God’s goodness. As you decorate it, share the story. Keep the stone somewhere you’ll see it.
